Check Your Neck!

Physical tension - anywhere in our bodies - limits our ability to create an open, beautiful tone.

One of the trickiest aspects of learning how to play with less tension is actually coming to understand how much tension we are holding without even realizing it.

The best advice I can possibly give you regarding physical tension and learning how to use your body more efficiently is to study the Alexander Technique.

Essentially, the Alexander Technique is a system of body awareness that allows you to move freely and ergonomically by helping you undo the lifelong habits of poor body use you have accumulated.

I’m not an expert in Alexander Technique, but I wanted to share some of what I have learned since it made such a large impact in my ability to play comfortably for as long as I want.

Try the exercise in the video above as a means for learning how to recalibrate your senses and to discover any tension lurking in the shadows of your consciousness!
