STUDY WITH BILLY

Cello Lessons for Adults — Online & In Person

There are several ways to study with me, depending on the level of guidance and flexibility you’re looking for.

For students ready to commit to consistent progress, I offer a limited number of ongoing weekly and biweekly private lesson spots.

I also offer occasional one-off lessons and complete online courses for students who need more flexibility.

Ongoing Private Lessons

Weekly or biweekly | In person or via Zoom

$150 USD

Lessons are 60 minutes and available either via Zoom or in person at my studio in Ventura County, California. I work with adult cellists at all levels, including complete beginners.

Each lesson is shaped around your goals, interests, and current challenges rather than a rigid curriculum.

I encourage students to record their lessons so they can revisit demonstrations, explanations, and practice suggestions between sessions.

Book a Single Lesson

Focused help without an ongoing commitment | In person or via Zoom

$150 USD

Individual openings occasionally become available in my teaching schedule and can be booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

An individual lesson may be a good fit if you:

  • want to experience my teaching before considering ongoing study

  • have a specific technical or musical question

  • would like feedback on a piece or practice routine

  • are working through one of my courses

  • cannot currently commit to regular lessons

Bring a question, piece, or concern about your playing, and we’ll identify what is holding you back and create clear next steps for your practice.

Learn through an online course

Complete, structured instruction on your own schedule | Self-paced and on-demand

My online courses are designed for adult cellists who want in-depth guidance with the flexibility to learn independently. Rather than a collection of short, disconnected videos, each program takes you through complete, carefully sequenced lessons that build from one day to the next.

You can pause, revisit demonstrations, and work at the pace that fits your life.

Cello in 30 Days™

Build a strong foundation from the beginning or rebuild the fundamentals beneath your playing.

Bow Arm Bootcamp™

Develop a freer, more efficient bow arm and learn how to create a richer, more reliable sound.

The Vibrato Blueprint™

Build a natural, expressive vibrato through a clear, progressive approach for adult learners.

My teaching philosophy

I truly believe it's never too late to learn the cello.

From the very beginning, we will prioritize making a beautiful sound alongside developing solid technique. Doing so will not only make practicing more enjoyable, it will build your confidence and motivation.

Adult learners should not lower their expectations simply because they started later in life.

My role is to help you build efficient, ergonomic technique, focus your practice on the areas that will have the greatest impact, and continue making meaningful progress while enjoying the journey.

faqs:

DO YOU TEACH COMPLETE BEGINNERS?

Yes. Complete beginners are welcome in ongoing private lessons, single lessons, and Cello in 30 Days™.

ARE LESSONS ONLINE OR IN PERSON?

Both. Lessons are available online through Zoom or in person at my studio in Ventura County, California.

HOW LONG ARE PRIVATE LESSONS?

Private lessons are 60 minutes. I also offer 90 minute lessons on a case by case basis for motivated students.

DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO WEEKLY LESSONS FOR PRIVATE STUDY?

Ongoing students generally meet weekly or biweekly.

You can also book a single lesson when an individual opening appears, with no ongoing commitment required.

CAN I BOOK A TRIAL PRIVATE LESSON?

Yes. A single lesson can be used as a trial lesson, to work through a particular question or technical issue, or to receive personalized feedback before deciding whether ongoing study is right for you.

WHICH OPTION IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Ongoing lessons are best if you want consistent, individualized guidance and are ready to practice between weekly or biweekly sessions.

A single lesson is best for a trial lesson, a specific question, or occasional personalized help.

An online course is best if you want complete, structured instruction that you can follow independently on your own schedule.
